In the Coachella Valley, between Indian Wells and Indio, you will find the City of La Quinta. Established at the turn of the 20th Century, agriculture soon gave way to resorts as Walter Morgan built the La Quinta Resort as a getaway for Hollywood socialites. The resort featured the community's first golf course, starting it on the road to the leading destination for golfers in the country. The addition of new freeways starting with State Route 111 and continuing with US Highways 60 and 99 brought tremendous growth to the area until it incorporated in 1982. Its population has since surpassed Palm Springs.

Shopping and Dining

The Shops on El Paseo in Palm Desert may offer the finest luxury shopping and dining in the Coachella Valley. Shops include the brilliant designs of Gucci and Bottega Veneta, American chic from Ralph Lauren and St. John, and the British-inspirations from Burberry. Shoppers can grab a quick bite at the Daily Grill, offering American casual cuisine. Valet parking is available near the Ralph Lauren shop on El Paseo between Highway 74 and Ocotillo.

The international cuisine you expect to find in Southern California is plentiful in the La Quinta area. Residents of La Quinta Real Estate do not have to forgo great food to live near great golf courses. Some of the fine dining favorites are LG's Prime Steakhouse, Jillian's modern European, and Mastro's Steakhouse, both in Palm Desert. Figue Mediterranean also offers French and Italian cuisine. The Cliffhouse offers surf and turf and Cork and Fork is a popular gastro pub.

Parks and Recreation

With golf being La Quinta's claim to fame, it is not surprising to learn that one of the most popular destinations is the golf course. The Quarry at La Quinta, designed by Tom Fazio, is rated among the top 100 courses in the country. The SilverRock Golf Resort is La Quinta's  public course that affords La Quinta residents year round discounted rates! .  Other popular courses include the PGA West Stadium Course, The Golf Club at La Quinta and La Quinta Resort Mountain Course. Some of the more exciting La Quinta Real Estate options are along some of the beautiful courses the Hideaway, two courses nestled within a private housing development.

The City of La Quinta offers a number of parks and sports complexes such as Fritz Burns, Pioneer, and Season's with dog parks. Hikers enjoy the trails at Bear Creek and La Quinta Trails. Art and culture are encouraged by the Art in Public Places program.  The La Quinta Art Foundation Library and Museum offer interesting programs. The Old Town Artisan Studio allows people of all ages explore their own creative side.

Just a few miles east of La Quinta, the Riverside County Fair takes place each February. In March, La Quinta celebrates the annual Arts Festival.

Living

The warm to hot desert climate attracts many people who have grown tired of snow and ice. Typically, the temperature tops 100 degrees during four months of summer, but winters are a beautiful 68 to 86 degrees. La Quinta Real Estate enjoys a long growing season with 348 days of sun each year for gorgeous lawns and flower gardens, although many prefer lower maintenance desert landscaping.

Tourism and service industries feed the local economy with the two largest employers being La Quinta Resort and Club with 1,500 employees and PGA West Stadium Course with 1,200. Next with 764 employees, is the Desert Sands Unified School District. This means that many of the 38,000 people who live here commute into Los Angeles or surrounding communities for work while others enjoy retirement status. Approximately 20.9 percent are 65 years old or older.

Schools, Health and Transportation

The Desert Sands Unified School District serves the entire community, so all schools in the La Quinta Real Estate district are managed by the same administration. The system includes five elementary schools, three middle schools, two traditional high schools, as well as two alternative high schools and one alternative middle school. College of the Desert in Palm Desert is the closest community college. Many students continue at the University of California at Riverside.

The Eisenhower Urgent Care provides the people of La Quinta general medical and emergency care services. Additional medical and emergency services are available nearby at JFK Memorial in Indio and Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage.

The SunBus line serves La Quinta and much of the Valley, but most residents depend upon private vehicles and the California freeway system to get around. The I-10 connects La Quinta to Los Angeles to the west and Phoenix to the east. Frequent fliers generally use Los Angeles International or John Wayne Airport in Orange County.
